Zone Valves
A hydronic radiant zone valve is a critical component in a hydronic (water-based) radiant heating system. It is an electrically or thermostatically controlled valve that regulates the flow of heated water to different zones in a radiant heating system.
Key Features & Functionality:
- Zone Control: It allows different areas (zones) of a building to receive heated water independently, improving comfort and energy efficiency.
- Electric or Thermostatic Operation: Typically controlled by a thermostat, the valve opens or closes to regulate water flow to the designated zone.
- Types: Common types include motorized zone valves, thermostatic actuators, and solenoid valves.
- Materials: Made of brass, stainless steel, or composite materials to withstand constant water exposure and varying temperatures.
- Integration with Pumps & Boilers: When the valve opens, it often triggers the boiler or circulation pump to deliver hot water to the zone.
How It Works:
- When heat is needed, the thermostat signals the zone valve to open.
- This allows hot water from the boiler to flow into the zone’s radiant tubing.
- Once the desired temperature is reached, the thermostat signals the valve to close, stopping water flow.
